Nutrition during breastfeeding is very important, of course, but you don’t need to overdo it and eat extra calories or special foods. Just make sure you are getting healthy, balanced, nutritious food during this period.
Don’t worry about nutrition while breastfeeding. Eating well doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. There are many nutritious foods that are easy, quick and easy to prepare. You can easily satisfy your hunger and choose foods that will keep you energized.
During breastfeeding, women may often feel thirsty. Make sure you drink enough fluids. Water, milk and unsweetened fruit juices are good options to add to your diet while breastfeeding. Always keep something to drink handy when feeding your baby. Drink enough to quench your thirst, but don’t overdo it. Because it is not proven that fluid intake is related to the amount of milk.
Vitamin D deficiency may be more common in breastfeeding women. Most of the vitamin D in the body is produced in the skin with the help of sunlight. Your doctor or health advisor can advise you about vitamin D supplements and nutrition during breastfeeding.
Although there are exceptions, most breastfeeding mothers can eat what they like, including spicy food, without affecting their babies – in moderation, of course. But you should still avoid too much food and drink.
Caffeine consumption during breastfeeding
When breastfeeding, you need to pay attention to your fluid intake while maintaining your diet. If you consume too much caffeine, it will keep your baby awake and make him or her much more restless than usual. This is why you should limit your intake of caffeine-containing drinks. And not just tea and coffee, but also colas and energy drinks. Some cold sensitizers and flu medicines may contain caffeine. Even theobromine in chocolate has the same properties and can cause similar effects.
Fatty fish consumption during breastfeeding
Consuming fish, which is an important part of the diet while breastfeeding, is good for you, but it is still not recommended to eat more than two portions of oily fish per week. The Ministry of Health recommends a limited amount of oily fish for women. Because although fish is beneficial to the body, it contains a small amount of chemicals.
Alcohol consumption during breastfeeding
Alcohol is very low in breastfed babies and a rare intake of alcohol will not harm your baby. But it is best to minimize drinking while breastfeeding. Like once or twice a week, no more than one or two drinks.
If you intend to drink more than this for a special reason, it is a good idea to cover your milk beforehand. If you have drunk alcohol, never share your bed or seat with your baby.
