8 Breastfeeding Tips to Share with Your Baby’s Caregivers

It is very important to inform your baby’s caregiver about the baby’s diet at that time. If your baby is exclusively breastfed, you should emphasize a few points that the caregiver should be sensitive to. Here are 8 tips to share with your baby’s caregivers.

1. Your baby does not need to drink water.

The person caring for your baby should not give water to an exclusively breastfed baby, even on very hot days. This also applies to juice or any liquid other than breast milk.

2. Do not put cornmeal or rice in the baby’s bottle.

This can create a risk of suffocation and, contrary to rumors, does not cause babies to sleep longer at a time. Do not allow your baby to receive any food other than breast milk unless your doctor recommends it.

3. Frozen breast milk should be thawed by bain-marie thawing and warmed.

Breast milk storage bags and breast milk storage bottles are designed to thaw quickly. The bag or bottle with frozen breast milk should be placed flat in a bowl of warm water. The thawed milk should be transferred to the bottle.

4. Breast milk should not be shaken!

When milk is transferred from the breast milk storage bag or bottle to the bottle, the breast milk can separate into creamy layers. To mix the milk, it is sufficient to turn the bottle gently in a circular motion.

5. Breast milk should not be heated in the microwave or on the stove!

Microwave ovens not only create unsafe hot spots but also destroy important nutrients. The milk in the bottle will need to be placed in a bowl of warm water and allowed to warm to the appropriate temperature. A similar method can be used for cooling, or the hot milk can be left to cool at room temperature.

6. The temperature of milk can be tested by pouring a drop of milk into the wrist.

Milk should not be hot, it should be at room temperature. A temperature that does not burn the inside of the wrist is suitable for the baby.

7. Once thawed, milk should not be frozen again!

Therefore, the milk should be taken out of the fridge and used little by little. If your baby is not full, you can still add a small amount.

8. If it is not sure how much milk the baby will drink, the bottle should not be filled with too much milk.

After using the bottle, milk should be consumed within 1 hour to prevent the formation of bacteria. You can suggest filling the bottle with a small amount of milk in the first place and adding a little more milk if your baby is not full.
