How should a newborn baby be put to bed?

Newborn babies’ sleep patterns are quite challenging for new parents. The baby’s frequent but short sleeps cause the parents to feel sleepless, tired and under intense stress by moving away from the sleep pattern they are used to. Although this picture may seem ‘horrible’ when described like this, the happiness of the baby helps to overcome the whole process easily. So, what should be done to make the newborn sleep more peacefully? What should be considered about newborn sleep and how should newborn babies be put to bed?

Newborn Laying Pattern

Newborn babies think they are still in the womb for a long time. This is why they stay in the fetal position for about 1 month. until they are 4 months old, they are comforted by the mother’s voice and the mother’s heartbeat. They need to be put to sleep in a way that they are comfortable in this position. So, how should the newborn baby be put to sleep?

  • It is recommended to lay the newborn on its side. In this position, reflux can also be prevented.

  • You should not leave a pacifier chain, extra fabric or pillow next to the baby.
  • You can also put the baby on its back, but you need to support its head with a thirty cm elevation.

How should the newborn bed be?

They should sleep at a 30-degree angle in bed. This prevents reflux and allows the baby to sleep comfortably. You can use newborn baby pillows for this purpose. The bed linen should be made entirely of cotton fabric. The sheet should be taut and not wrinkled and tangled around the baby’s legs and arms so that the baby is not uncomfortable. Excessively patterned bed linen is also not recommended.

Newborn Sleep

The newborn baby’s sleep pattern is the same as in the womb: short and frequent naps. Therefore, it is useless to try to establish a sleep pattern. It is necessary to feed the baby and put him/her to sleep, and when he/she wakes up, take care of him/her and feed him/her again. However, changing the baby’s diaper, changing the baby’s clothes, giving a dim light effect in the room before going to sleep every time helps the baby to realize that it is time to sleep.
