First Aid in Case of Choking in Infants

If your baby has difficulty breathing, tries to cough, puts his/her hands to his/her throat, is in pain or turns blue, an object may be lodged in the windpipe.

  • First, open your baby’s mouth and check whether the object is in a place where you can pick it up with your hand. If you can see the object, remove it with two fingers. If you cannot see the object, do not try to find it by putting your hand down the baby’s throat.

  • If you cannot see the object, lay your baby face down on one arm. Tap the palm of your hand between your baby’s shoulder blades a few times.

  • If you still can’t see the object, lay the baby on its back with its head and chest lower than the rest of its body and tap the chest with the palm of your hand a few times.

  • Remember that in case this method does not work, you may need to use the airway opening method.

What to Do in Case of Electric Shock in Babies

You should definitely take a look at what needs to be done to create a safe home environment for babies. However, electric shock, which can happen to any baby who likes to play, is usually caused by sockets. Even if you take the necessary precautions, it is useful to be prepared for this situation that may happen to you in daily life.

  1. First, your baby needs to get rid of the electric current. The first thing you need to do for this is to turn off the switch. However, if this process is not possible at first or will take a long time, you should remove your baby from the current with a non-conductive item. Remove your baby from the current with a wooden broomstick, a book or a wooden object.
  2. Electric shock may cause a small burn mark on your baby’s body depending on the severity. However, internal organs may also be damaged. In such a case, you should see your doctor immediately
