Causes of Sweating in Babies

It is common for babies to sweat when they are asleep. Sweating is a normal phenomenon in which the sweat glands are activated to keep the body temperature constant. When the body temperature rises too much, the sweat glands are activated and the body starts to cool down.

In general, many adults think that their baby is always cold. Increasing the temperature of the baby’s environment or dressing the baby in too thick clothes in summer can cause the baby to sweat during sleep. If your baby is sweating, you can review the clothes you are wearing and the temperature of the room.

Babies can sweat when they suck, play or get excited. Sucking is especially demanding for babies. Physical contact between the mother and the baby can also cause the baby to sweat due to the increase in body temperature. Most of the time, sweating while sleeping is not a health problem to worry about.

Sweating of the baby’s head while sleeping

It is very common for a baby’s head to sweat . Sweating, which is physiologically quite normal, occurs due to an increase in body temperature. Especially the head area of babies is the area where there is intense sweating due to the presence of hair follicles.

In which cases should we pay attention to sweating during sleep in infants?

  • If your baby cannot be prevented by simple solutions such as changing his/her clothes and keeping an eye on the room temperature,
  • If the baby is noticeably sweating in his/her sleep,
  • If your baby has a severe fever with sweating ,
